Summary of Peter Novak

Equal parts coach, psychologist and seasoned financial services leader, Pete Novak, aka the pQ Coach, shows general agents and sales managers how to build cultures of success in their organizations through delegation, empowerment and focus on unique ability. Pete realized that the people with the most potential in his organization started out with four things in common: drive, unique ability, integrity and cultural fit. In tandem, they became the most reliable predictor of success he had at his disposal. He named this formula the pQ™ (short for Potential Quotient). Pete's instinct for identifying and cultivating potential has made him a one of the most successful recruiters among all his clients, and a sought-after coach and speaker. His unique professional background lends both credibility and creativity to his approach, resulting in a powerful, motivating experience for his agents, managers and coaching clients alike.

Having reached his full height of 6'6"³ by the time he was 16, Pete Novak has always had a different view of the world"“literally and figuratively. It's what led to successful careers in psychology and coaching and, when he landed in financial services more than 30 years ago, ignited an immediate urge to turn the business upside down. Farewell to the “Madmen” mindset. Mahogany desks out. Real people in.

Tossing out the rulebook of the old guard led to some interesting discoveries, but the game-changer was this: Pete realized that the people with the most potential in his organization started out with four things in common: Drive, unique ability, integrity and cultural fit. In tandem, they became the most reliable predictor of success he had at his disposal. He named this formula the pQ™ (short for Potential Quotient).

The pQ combines self-actualization and individual achievement with the goal of leaving this business a better place, effectively adjusting the lens through which the industry views the recruiting and development of its next generation of leaders.

Pete's instinct for identifying and cultivating potential has made him a one of the most successful recruiters among all MassMutual General Agents, and a sought-after coach and speaker. His unique professional background lends both credibility and creativity to his approach, resulting in a powerful, motivating experience for his agents, managers and coaching clients alike.

A 30-year veteran of the insurance and financial services industry, Pete is currently the General Agent of one of MassMutual's largest agencies. He previously served as general agent to MassMutual's Rochester agency; co-general agent at The New England/Robinson Co. in Waterbury, Connecticut; and as an agent at the New York Life Insurance Company. Before entering the financial services world, he coached college basketball for five years, and worked as a social worker in his hometown of New Haven, Connecticut.

A firm dedication to community service and Polish culture remains at the center of Pete's professional and personal endeavors. Pete and his wife, Kasia, live in Longmeadow, Massachusetts. They have three grown children.
