Goodman Receives "Woman In Business" Award for Leadership & Success from the Hartford Business Journal
HARTFORD, CONN., - In a crowded banquet room in downtown Hartford, eight women stood out as recipients of the distinguished “Women in Business” award for 2009, as selected by the Hartford Business Journal.
These women, including Diane Goodman, president of the Goodman Speakers Bureau, demonstrate “the intangibles necessary for effective leadership – an ability to communicate a vision, inspire others to act and deliver results,” according to Gail Lebert, publisher of the Hartford Business Journal.
The keynote speaker, Anne Paramenter, field hockey and lacrosse coach at Trinity College, drew parallels between her experiences climbing Mt. Everest and the accomplishments of these women. “We all have our mountains to conquer,” Anne said. “We all push ourselves to meet goals and reach higher. It’s an honor to be in the room with these talented women.”
Each honoree also received a proclamation from Connecticut Governor M. Jodi Rell, acknowledging their achievements in business. These certificates were presented as a surprise to the winners by the emcee of the event, Yvonne Nava, co-anchor of the NBC-30 Morning News.
Diane was joined at the May 12 awards event by employees, friends, family members, clients and associates who were on-hand to congratulate and support her. This recognition comes during the 30th year Diane has been in business running a highly successful professional speakers bureau.
“This was a wonderful day for us,” Diane said. “The Hartford Business Journal does an exceptional job cheerleading successful businesses and businesspeople. It means a lot to me to have my individual and professional accomplishments recognized by such a prominent group.”

Reaching The Top
No group of area women business leaders better
represent Greater Hartford’s diverse and
evolving industries than the eight outstanding
women profiled in the Hartford Business
Journal’s seventh annual Women in Business
issue. Each is demonstrating extraordinary
leadership during challenging times through
individual initiative and organizational
accomplishments.
This year, the Hartford Business Journal has selected executives who are dealing with major change issues occurring in the region’s insurance, real estate and state government sectors, and others who are introducing advanced information technology into the workplace as well as running organizations designed to handle increasing social service needs from families and children throughout the area.
With a considerable population of highly talented women in leadership roles throughout Greater Hartford, limiting the Hartford Business Journal’s selection to eight is a daunting task. For the region, however, it means there exists a broad concentration of exceptionally talented women who will continue to be called upon to lead our region’s businesses and state government in the years ahead.
This year’s remarkable eight, in addition to their talent and experience, demonstrate the intangibles necessary for effective leadership — an ability to communicate a vision, inspire others to act and deliver results. Inside, you’ll read about who and what inspires them, how they view their individual and organization’s role and responsibilities in the community, and how they handle stress and have fun.
They’re not super women. They’re soccer moms, civic leaders, theater and music lovers, volunteers for all sorts of causes, and perpetually in search of some quiet time. In short, they’re women doing super jobs while achieving the often elusive balance of work and family life.
Together, with other leaders drawn from Greater Hartford’s rich talent base, they embody our region’s bright future.
