As a new member of the board of directors for the non-profit organization, Capitol Squash, Diane Goodman is giving back to underprivileged Hartford youth with life-changing opportunities to reach their potential as athletes, students, and engaged citizens.
Throughout Diane’s life, both professionally and personally, people have given to her and helped her grow into the person that she is today. She would not be in the place she is today if it weren’t for people believing in her and wanting her to succeed. In the past, Diane has been a board member to professionally focused organizations. This organization is different for Diane because she is sharing her guidance and life lessons with young underprivileged children to make them stronger and ready to go off into the world.
Some of the children that are a part of Capitol Squash have little opportunity, but this organization opens endless doors for them. This organization does not just offer sports skills; children are able to learn and grow through tutoring, mentoring, and traveling. Diane sees her ability to give back to at this point in her life as an opportunity to teach young people the life skills that she learned, encourage them to keep reaching, and not to settle.
In particular, as a female entrepreneur, she finds it very important to influence young women. Diane hopes to encourage young women that they can aspire to be whoever and do whatever they want as adults. Diane wants to encourage the young girls that are a part of the organization that they can accomplish anything that they set their mind to. She is in the process of putting together a program specifically for girls within Capitol Squash.
Diane learned of this opportunity to give back to the local community because of speaker Paul Assaiante. As she has gotten to know Paul over the past 7 years, he has been an inspiration not just for his squash team, but to his community as well. He has been instrumental in getting Capitol Squash off the ground.
Looking toward the future of Capitol Squash, it is dependent on contributors to ensure that funds are reached. For this organization to thrive, the goals need to be seen through and accomplished. Click here if you are interested in donating.
