Whether we are managing a corporation, a meeting planning department, or a household, we all communicate and negotiate in our daily lives. Yet, some of us confront these tasks with more confidence than others. For those who could use a helping hand, the new book, Nice Girls Just Don't Get It, is filled with strategies and tactics on building confidence and success in the world of communication and negotiation.
Negotiation expert and professional speaker, Carol Frohlinger, JD, has released this new book to help women fine tune their negotiation skills at work AND at home. In, Nice Girls Just Don't Get It, Carol teams up with co-author and Psychotherapist, Dr. Lois P. Frankel. The book features down-to-earth strategies they've used with women in the workplace and applies them to personal situations women face today.
What do they consider a “nice girl”? Well, nice girls are those more concerned with pleasing others than with addressing their own needs. They are reluctant to deal with those who treat them disrespectfully, leverage relationships, and set appropriate boundaries. As a result, nice girls fail to live up to their potential.
Not sure if you're a “nice girl”? Then, take the self-assessment featured in the beginning of the book to gain valuable personal insights. The book offers indispensable advice women can use to more successfully communicate and negotiate anywhere, with anyone. A must read for women seeking to build more fulfilling lives and stronger business skills.
It was just about 2 years ago that I, Diane Goodman, walked next door to Van's nails in Windsor, CT for my manicure when I was greeted by this lovely young women named Thao. She informed me that Van, her aunt, was away for a few weeks and she and her other cousins would be running the shop. So, she did my nails that day and I had the most delightful conversation with her. She was smart, articulate, outgoing, professional and respectful. I learned she was president of her class, active in sports and all types of activities at Windsor High School. I was so impressed I gave her my card and told her if she ever was looking for a part-time or summer job to call me. Well, a few months later, she did, and she has been with us ever since! So when she called me in the late fall asking if Goodman Speakers Bureau would sponsor her for the Shad Derby Queen competition, I didn't hesitate for a moment. We are so proud to be a part of this young woman's life. She is going to UCONN on a full scholarship in the fall and yes, she did very well in the competition. We attended the gala with her and shared in her excitement, along with her parents and her Aunt Van…who smiles from ear to ear every time we talk about Thao.
Congratulations Paul, from all of us here at Goodman Speakers Bureau.

Diane Goodman and GSB staff members recently enjoyed a very exciting meeting with Dr John Tickell from Australia!
We were able to visit him in NY after he had finished filming an upcoming show for PBS. Talk about having initiatives in the works…Dr Tickell is hard to keep up with! First, is the upcoming PBS Pledge Drive which will be aired in July 2011. During the broadcast, he will be speaking on health, wellness, and longevity for 60 minutes. His overall message motivates people to get the most out of life both at home and in the workplace. Callers who donate to PBS will receive copies of his existing books as a token of appreciation. Dr Tickell's books are currently being re-printed for the US market, (requiring conversion into pounds and ounces), so they'll be ready in time for the Pledge Drive.
Secondly, he's publishing a new book later this year called, Nine Secrets of Winning in Business and Life. The publication date is still to be determined. In addition, he is working on another book with friend and golfer, Jack Nicklaus. I'm not sure which book will be published first, but we'll be sure to keep you posted!
And don't forget “The Incredibles”! Just what are “The Incredibles”? Well, this is another creation of Dr Tickell's, being launched in the US and Australia this July. It is an interactive gaming experience for children, aimed at teaching them to choose whole foods and develop better eating habits. We can't wait to share more on this educational initiative which clearly reflects Dr Tickell's mission to fight childhood obesity and type-2 diabetes.
